This is it Reader,

just like I promised last week: you can finally read the entire book! For free!

I will explain all of this today, and also talk to you more about how the illustrating process will go for this book. I promise you colors!

We have a lot of new people here this week! Hello! 👋

Just as a heads-up for everyone: every month, one of you is picked to win a completely new print, and the next winner will be chosen next week! So as usual, keep an eye on your inbox ;)

Feel free to browse my gallery to see which one you'd like!

How to Download My Book!

The illustrations are sketched, the manuscript is complete, the book is properly formatted… There is no reason to delay it anymore! Now is the time for you to read the very first version of my illustrated book!

It’s 34 pages long, and I’ve shared my progress working on this book since almost the beginning: from the idea, sketching 14 illustrations in a month, and now finally completing the manuscript.

The story follows a young girl named Susie who, while trying to complete a school survey about jobs, encounters a mysterious woman with a quite unusual job title…

The book is currently called “Susie & the Blue Roof Witch,” and to download your PDF copy, you simply click on this button:

Please keep in mind that this is a first beta version: I haven’t done the cover yet, and the illustrations are still rough and uncolored for the most part. But I really want you to have a look and enjoy the story!

I’m sharing this only with you because you’re part of my Newsletter Club, but feel free to share it with people (especially kids!) who would appreciate it: art is sad when it’s locked away.

How I Almost Lost My Sanity over This First Illustration

As I said, the book has 14 illustrations, and if you are familiar with my art, you know that I love to draw details. A lot of them.

Unfortunately for me, the opening shot was a perfect representation of that. With my full-time job, it took me almost a week just to finish the ink. A week! I knew it would be a big task, but I didn’t expect to be that right.

Thankfully, I made it through, one line at a time. Close to 200 layers later, the other illustrations will feel easy in comparison!

Note that I haven’t done the shadows and highlights yet; I want to make more progress on the other illustrations first and experiment with the color palette.

Speaking of the palette, I’m trying to change things up and use more light colors with slightly less saturation. Actually, this will be very beneficial when printing, as images tend to darken during this process, and will be easier on the eye so that details are easier to appreciate.

I’m still figuring things out, and colors are not my strong suit, but I hope you will enjoy the change. 😊

That's it for today! Remember to grab your copy of the book; I'm not going to send it again!

What's next? We have all the other illustrations to finish! See you next week to check how far I've come 😉

In the meantime, take care!
