Hey there Reader 📡
I'm so so excited for today's issue! I have so much to talk about with you: more art, future projects, cozy vibes, and above all a special gift for you!
This week's newsletter will be like a handful of (healthy!) snacks while you're having a little break from your day :) 🌿 Let's get started!
But before that, I have one little thing to add! It's our usual gift round up: First of, the winner for this week's print giveaway has been decided!
It's someone who has been a member for over 8 months now! It always warms my heart to see many of you still here after so long 😊
Also, the books are progressively arriving in their new homes! ❤️
Thank you to everyone, old and new, for being here!
Print and color my art at home!
Last week I asked you if you’d be interested in printing some of my artworks as coloring pages, and it turns out that some of you are interested! So I’m happy to announce that I’ve made 6 coloring pages just for you :)
To access it, you need to click on this link from the email:
If you are a member of the newsletter, you’ll receive the link to a Google Drive directly in your inbox!
(Hit me up if it doesn't work!)
From there you just have to pick your favorite and print it!
This is only for subscribers! But if you are reading this from the web (hello!), you simply need to join the newsletter for free and you’ll find the same link in the welcome email ✉️
For the occasion, I bought some extra paper and tried to print those myself :)
I really recommend printing on thick paper for extra durability. I printed mine on 200GSM paper and I really feel the jump in quality compared to standard paper!
I really love how they turned out, and I hope you’ll enjoy filling in the details from the comfort of your own home 😊
Please feel free to request a specific illustration that you would like to see (see the last section!), and please send me a picture if you colored one of them! It would mean the world to me 🩷
I’m getting geared up for the convention!
It was long overdue, but after a bit of waiting and fixes, I finally received my business cards! And I’m in love with how they look ✨
The goal was to make a card that could pass as a free print, something you could almost stick next to your desk to decorate (something I do often with museum tickets!).
But I also love how they feel to hold: I’ve opted for a matte and soft touch finish, and I’m very satisfied with it. Maybe nobody will notice, but it makes me very happy to have these cards that definitely feel more premium now.
I have 200 of them, and now my goal is to give them away to people interested :)
I’m also ordering more again for my upcoming convention at the end of the month: not too much (I don’t want to take risks after how my first one turned out!), but I’m still excited to experiment.
For example, I ordered a few acrylic keychains to try them out! I don't know if people will like them, but I can’t wait to see them in real life, and share them with you!
I also grabbed some supplies to make my art stand up! (along with some fruits ✨)
Progress on my next illustration! 🙌
This weekend I finally had more time to dive into my next illustration. I was struggling a lot with the ink (so many details to draw!), and staying focused at home has started to be a challenge.
So I knew what I needed to do!
On Saturday morning, I packed my bag and sat in my favorite coffee shop to draw.
Despite the music and the distractions in these kind of places, being on your own with one task to do really does wonders for focus.
I sat there for 5 hours straight (with coffee, water and food!), and I managed to finish the ink and the color blocking!
I really wasn’t expecting the ink to take this long, but as you can see there was a huge amount of foliage to draw. It was maybe a bit extreme to draw them with this amount of detail, but I’m really happy with how it turned out!
If you’ve followed my illustration process for a while, you know that the line work is always the hardest part, so I’m relieved to have made it to the other side.
It’s funny, a few years ago I thought it was absurd to spend more than 2 hours on a single illustration; now I spent double this amount on just a tiny part of the ink!
It might not be the best rhythm to post and grow on social media, but for now I just want to do what needs to be done.
I wouldn’t be as proud of what I’m doing if I was rushing it.
Even if, I admit, I would love to have a bit more time to dedicate to my illustrations. It would be so much faster this way!
Ask me anything!
I was thinking of doing a Q&A or asking you about the topics you’d like to discuss for a long time, but always put it aside as I wasn’t sure how to go about it. But now I found the perfect format!
I used straw.page, a fun website builder that allows you to drag and drop text and images, and even draw directly on the page!
More importantly, they allow visitors to send questions, messages, and even drawings! All of that anonymously and in just a few clicks.
Feel free to ask me anything! I had a lot of fun with the design I have to say :)
A quick heads up, especially if you’ve discovered my work recently: I have an online gallery with all my ("canonical") illustrations easily accessible.
This is my favorite way to share my artworks, as a social media feed often gets cluttered with reposts, WIP and other non-relevant posts.
After a few technical issues that prevented me from keeping it up to date, I finally added all of my latest illustrations, including the ones from my book “Susie & The Blue Roof Witch”. All of them are here!
It’s a great way to see how my art evolved over the past two years, see some experimentation, refinement, and in the end how I finally settled on my style. Enjoy!
Big art collaboration incoming!
I teased it last week, but I’m now happy to announce that my collab project is coming along nicely!
This will be a website where anyone will be able to contribute: Each artist has to draw a room and their character (OC, Persona, themselves…) and all of them will be linked together in a fun and minimalist adventure game fashion :)
The project is basically done: all the code is there and complete, I just need to put it online and test it out to make sure it’s working.
So expect submissions to be open by next week! I was able to leverage some code and templates I already had, so this project went really smoothly. Which is a nice change of pace!
If you like to draw I would love to have you contribute, but if you don’t I hope you’ll have fun exploring the final game! ✨
Phew! That was a lot. I warned you for a reason! But I hope you had a great time reading this new issue of my art newsletter 🌸
I'll see you next week for more illustration progress and this art room collab! :) Please have a great rest of your day, and as always,
Take care, - Nighten
