Good morning Reader! 🌼

I'm writing to you as I'm packing my bag for a business trip; things are pretty busy these days, but I'm happy to come to you to relax and tell you what I've been up to recently :)

This week I finally officially open the door to a project I've been working on for a long time, and as always I have some art to share with you!

Let's dive in ✨

But before this, allow me to remind you that next week one of you will be picked to get a free print delivered to their door! It will be the 10th person to receive it since starting this newsletter, which is a very exciting milestone ☺️

In case you don't know, one member is picked every first Tuesday of the month! So keep an eye on your inbox, especially for next week :)

The documentary poster is taking shape!

In case you missed it, last week I shared with you some awesome news: I'm taking part in the making of a documentary, by drawing the cover!

The documentary is about the artists' creative journey, and the people making it will be exposing this weekend at KFK (Krakowski Festiwal Komiksu 🇵🇱), just like me :)

Edit!
I just got the notification that the documentary will be called
Creative Heroes, "a documentary about the people behind the comics"!

Given the short deadline (I only started 2 weeks ago), we are not expecting a fully finished illustration by this time; so I had to cut some corners to have something nice to show despite that!

Here is the refined sketch I sent them:

I still would like to add way more details, but for now it will have to do! Since the documentary itself is still in the making, it's actually fitting to have a "work in progress" feel to it.

The next step however is to add some extra colors to make it look more complete. This is what I came up with so far:

My goal now is to polish it and send it to them as soon as possible :) I'll make sure to send you a picture of how it looks on their stall!

ArtRooms2025 - My art collab event is finally online!

A few weeks ago I shared with you a very cool project I had in mind for a while: a virtual mansion where every room is drawn by a different artist!

This has been on the back of my mind for a while, and I'm happy to announce that after a lot of struggle, it's finally online!

https://artrooms.nighten.fr

If you feel like you'd want to join, you can click on this link and fill out the form :)

There is a basic MS Paint-like editor directly on the website, where you'll be able to draw the room and the character that inhabits it (it could be you or your own character!)

I'm so relieved to finally have it working; creating websites is my day job, but this one turned out to be especially tricky!

And a few things are still missing: the website is not very usable on small screens for example, and the email service to confirm submission is not finalized yet. But it's usable apart from that!

I'll have more time to iterate if I make this event an annual thing. It's good enough for now!

My primary goal for this event is the same one I had when organizing an Art Secret Santa last Christmas: I want to bring people together, and connect with more cool artists and people.

Meeting more people has been my main focus recently: by joining online and offline communities, participating in the conventions and joining the documentary project... I'm learning that, like everyone, I can't do everything by myself; and it's been great so far :)

Midsommar celebration - and reflecting on the year

Let me tell you about my little adventure of the weekend - it felt like I joined a cult.

Every year at this time of June, a gigantic event is taking place in Krakow; to celebrate the summer solstice, thousands of students are dressing up in white clothes, make flower crowns, and go dance around a gigantic fire pit to the rhythm of drums.

This event is done in the wild, with no real organizers nor structure; and I can tell you that a few thousand people gathered in the forest, all gathered with candles and beer, is quite impressive to see!

This event is celebrated all around the globe, and I strongly recommend you going there if you have the occasion :)

But I wanted to tell you about it to share with you some of the reflection I got after going there - you see, I've joined for the first time last year, right after doing some major changes in my life (new job, new country!); and I took this event as a step towards reinvention.

Jumping over the fire is a good moment to do so! (yes I did it of course!)

And as I look back, my proudest accomplishment is probably this very newsletter.

Not only did I start it after dreaming about it for years, but I've kept up with it for 9 months now!

I'm very grateful that I've committed to that path, and I want to thank you for being along for the ride

My goal for the coming 12 months is to continue to grow as an artist, and continue to bring you stories I find interesting, and of course pretty art to look at :)

And if you need it, I wish you all to find your way of reinventing yourself!

Thank you for reading this new issue!

Next week will be very special: As I said at the beginning, I'm leaving for a business trip today, and coming right on time for KFK, a big convention that will last the whole weekend!

It's gonna be very intense on my side; so next week expect fewer big illustrations, but I'm sure a lot of interesting stories! Let's find out together if this convention will be less of a disaster than last time ;)

In the meantime, please have a fantastic week! Enjoy the weather, get some time to relax, and as always,

Take care!
- Nighten

PS: Last week's illustration has been added as a coloring page in the collection! Click the link below to access it, or subscribe to the newsletter if you are not already :)
